Sustainability Projects

Choosing to change

I am now at a time in my art practice where I lean my focus towards advocating for the land, flora, and fauna through an ongoing engagement with natural and recycled resources, using sustainable naturally or responsibly sourced materials, non-toxic, and with consideration to the disposal of any waste products I generate whilst creating my work.

My current goal is to strive to bring the environment into my work by incorporating earth and ground rocks into colours, mark-making with tools derived from the landscape I am working within and experimenting in the development of making natural inks and pigments from plants without negatively impacting health and environment.

A visit to this farm brought forth a wonderful array of colour results.  Using a combination of pigments sourced at the property I created a large scale work representing the life cycle of the Oca yam - described as being edible at leaf, stem and root level as the plant develops and transfers it's energy during it's life cycle.
